SUMMARY:ITE Southern Alberta: Transportation Management of Emergencies in Northern Alberta (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Transportation Management of Emergencies in Northern Alberta \nThe Peace Region has experienced either wildfires or floods every year since 2014. Each year\, it is a matter of when the emergency will strike\, not if. Part of Mae’s work as the Operations Manager includes managing highway closures and evacuation routes during such emergencies. In this presentation\, Mae is going to highlight the importance of networking and planning in advance of a disaster\, as well as regular training and communication. \nProper traffic accommodation is essential to protect both local communities and other road users. Mae will review what was done here in Alberta to aid the thousands of evacuees from the Northwest Territories and how sometimes a small gesture can make a huge difference! \nPresenter: Mae Stewart\, P.Eng \nMae has spent her entire career as a civil engineer in the public service\, working for municipal\, federal and now provincial governments. She has spent the last 16 years working for Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC) in Peace River. As the Operations Manager\, Mae oversees the delivery of departmental programs on Alberta’s highway network\, First Nation and Metis Settlement road infrastructure\, park and urban access roads\, and ferries and ice bridges. She is responsible for the delivery of multi-million dollar highway maintenance contracts and provides leadership to a team of engineers and technologists.
