DESCRIPTION:Transportation Management of Emergencies in Northern Alberta \nThe Peace Region has experienced either wildfires or floods every year since 2014. Each year\, it is a matter of when the emergency will strike\, not if. Part of Mae’s work as the Operations Manager includes managing highway closures and evacuation routes during such emergencies. In this presentation\, Mae is going to highlight the importance of networking and planning in advance of a disaster\, as well as regular training and communication. \nProper traffic accommodation is essential to protect both local communities and other road users. Mae will review what was done here in Alberta to aid the thousands of evacuees from the Northwest Territories and how sometimes a small gesture can make a huge difference! \nPresenter: Mae Stewart\, P.Eng \nMae has spent her entire career as a civil engineer in the public service\, working for municipal\, federal and now provincial governments. She has spent the last 16 years working for Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC) in Peace River. As the Operations Manager\, Mae oversees the delivery of departmental programs on Alberta’s highway network\, First Nation and Metis Settlement road infrastructure\, park and urban access roads\, and ferries and ice bridges. She is responsible for the delivery of multi-million dollar highway maintenance contracts and provides leadership to a team of engineers and technologists. Mae has been involved in several innovative projects such as the design and construction of a carcass compost\, the construction and maintenance of an bridge across an 800m wide river\, and the creation of a five year strategic people plan to build an engaged and resilient workplace culture. \n

DESCRIPTION:Hi Everyone! \nCome join us for our first annual trail ride! SW Ontario has many great rural cycling links between our communities\, so what better way to learn about them than to ride them? \nThis year we will begin and end at Rural Roots Brewing Company in Elmira. We’ll meet at 10:45am in their parking lot\, then ride about 1 km through town to the G2G trail\, where we’ll travel about 5 km east to West Montrose. There we will check out the covered bridge (aka the Kissing Bridge) which was built in 1881 and is listed on Canada’s Register of Historic Places. Please make sure to wear and ride with appropriate gear\, this is best with a standard bike (not racer tires). \nIndividual registration is required but there’s no charge to participate and no limit on the number of participants\, so come on out and bring a colleague or friend! \nWe can’t wait to see you there! \nPlease note: \n\nIt’s not overly challenging\, this is meant to be a leisurely ride\, but please be aware of your abilities;\nThere will be a gravel surface\, some traffic interaction\, and some grades;\nEach participant should have their own bike\, but we may be able to line up a spare or two in case someone doesn’t have one; and\nThere is limited parking available there\, so carpooling might be the best option for anyone who arrives from outside the area.\n\nDetails: \nPrice: FREE! The recent construction of a new bridge across the Peace River with dedicated active transportation infrastructure spurred significant opportunity for active transportation connectivity through the Town. \nBunt & Associates\, together with the Town\, developed an Active Transportation Plan to provide infrastructure and policy recommendations to provide the Town of Peace River with critical initial steps towards continued active transportation growth. This presentation will cover our journey to this point\, a description of our system being piloted\, some implementation notes\, and ideas on what the next steps may be. \nSpeaker Bio – Morgan Glasgow\n \nMorgan Glasgow is the Supervisor of Traffic Signal Timings for the City of Winnipeg. He started at the City’s traffic signals branch fresh out of his M.Sc in 2016. He’s been with the City since then in a few different roles working with great people doing great work. Morgan loves working on projects that have a local impact. Outside of work\, he likes going to the park with his toddler. \nSpeaker Bio – Cassidy Zrobek \nCassidy Zrobek is a traffic signals timing engineer at the City of Winnipeg. She obtained both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Manitoba. Her graduate research focused on options for enhancing network-wide annual average daily truck volume estimates. While completing her studies\, she served as the Community Chair\, Treasurer\, and President of the University of Manitoba ITE Student Chapter. DESCRIPTION:In April 2024\, TransLink and the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure released the Design Guide for Bus Stops Adjacent to Cycling Infrastructure. The Design Guide is an award-winning document that was developed based on extensive technical work and engagement with people with lived experience. While the Design Guide provides detailed technical guidance on how to improve the experience of all users at island platform bus stops\, there remain challenges to be addressed in continuing to improve accessibility and remove barriers to people with disabilities at island platform bus stops. \nJoin us for this interactive moderated panel discussion with transportation and accessibility professionals to learn about their experience planning and designing island platform bus stops in Metro Vancouver and where we go from here. Panel speakers include: \n\nMackenzie Fleming\, City of Vancouver\nAdrian Yau\, City of Vancouver\nMo Bot\, City of North Vancouver\nSabrina Lau Texier\, TransLink\nStan Leyenhorst\, Universal Access Design\nBrian Patterson\, Urban Systems\n\n \nSpeaker bios: \nMackenzie Fleming is a former marine biologist turned planning analyst with the City of Vancouver. Her focus is community and stakeholder engagement in support of transportation projects\, ranging in nature from localized traffic calming to City-spanning greenways. \nAdrian Yau is a senior transportation design engineer at the City of Vancouver\, with 8 years of experience in urban multimodal street design\, including protected bike lanes\, protected intersections\, pedestrian-focused designs\, and transit priority. He led the design of pilot projects in Vancouver to test emerging design treatments for island platform bus stops to improve accessibility. Adrian is also a member of the TAC Geometric Design Committee. \nMo Bot is a transportation planner and project manager specializing in design and construction of sustainable and active transportation projects. At the City of North Vancouver\, they incorporate the delivery of infrastructure accessibility upgrades across capital projects large and small. \nSabrina Lau Texier is the Director of Infrastructure Programs at TransLink\, which owns and operates bridges and active transportation infrastructure\, looks after the design of passenger-facing facilities\, manages regional goods movement and road networks\, and partners with municipalities to invest in cycling\, walking\, bus and road infrastructure. \nStan Leyenhorst is an accessibility specialist\, providing critical input filtered through the lens of universal design. In addition to his technical experience in this field\, Stan brings decades of lived experience and a first-person user perspective. Stan continues to be involved as an expert advisor with respect to accessibility and urban design. His collaborative mindset coupled with his innovative skillset offers the requisite insight into achieving inclusive communities. \nBrian Patterson is a senior transportation planner specializing in active transportation\, multi-modal transportation\, safety\, and accessibility. Brian has worked on hundreds of transportation plans and designs for communities of all sizes across Canada. He has been with the City of Brandon for 8.5 years and focuses now on road safety\, transportation planning and special projects. He is a Certified Engineering Technologist and a Registered Professional Planner. Sam attended college in Windsor\, Ontario where he received his Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology and then went on to the University of Waterloo to receive his Bachelors in Environmental Studies in Planning. \nThe City of Brandon has constituted a Vision Zero Task Force that meets regularly to address road safety concerns and implements various initiatives to foster safer roadways in the City of Brandon. One of these projects includes a speed reduction pilot project where the City is looking at the effect of a reduced speed limit on a variety of roadways including collector streets\, local neighborhoods\, parks and the Brandon University Campus. \nSam will summarize the reduced speed project and discuss future plans that the City of Brandon will take to implement a reduced speed limit and what that will look like from a compliance and enforcement perspective.\n \nGreg Blatz is the Traffic Management Engineer in the Transportation Division at the City of Winnipeg. He is a graduate of the Civil Engineering program at the University of Manitoba and joined the City in 2015 after working at Dillon Consulting. Greg has a wide variety of experience including traffic modelling\, traffic signal timing\, and traffic operations. \nGreg will give an overview of the Reduced-Speed Neighbourhood Pilot\, the traffic calming program and other speed related studies in the City of Winnipeg. \n \nOnline registration will close at 1:00 p.m. on November 22.\nIf you wish to register after the cut-off time\, please contact the ITE MB Treasurer\, Adam Budowski. The City of St. Thomas is undergoing major improvements to support the development of an Electric Vehicle Battery Cell factory and an accompanying industrial park planned to increase peak hour traffic volumes by over 3\,000 vehicles. Infrastructure improvements include the widening of Highbury Avenue\, sanitary sewer upgrades\, installation of three roundabouts\, and the replacement of watermain. These improvements were supported by an environmental assessment\, which included a grading feasibility study\, ecological assessment\, and traffic study. \nTake this opportunity to meet the local section executive\, as well as students and faculty from our three student chapters (Waterloo\, Windsor\, and Western).
