SUMMARY:ITE Greater Vancouver: Virtual Seminar - Built in a Flash\, Monitored for Years: The BC Pedestrian Hybrid Signal – May 2026
DESCRIPTION:ITE Greater Vancouver Section is pleased to have Trevor Demerse present his work on pedestrian hybrid signals on May 28th\, 2026\, at 12:00 pm PST. The virtual seminar will be free and online. \nIn 2024\, the BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit installed its first Pedestrian Hybrid Signal which operates similarly to the Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon gaining popularity in the United States. It also shares similarities with the UK Pelican Signal. \nIn this presentation\, Designer Trevor Demerse will discuss the reasons for developing the new signal operation\, how it was designed to comply with BC Regulations\, and how the nearly 2 years of monitoring has shown that the signal system has improved safety over the pre-existing “Special Crosswalk” (actuated amber beacons) at the pilot location. This presentation will also cover a brief background of Pedestrian Signals in BC and a high-level technical overview.  \nDate: May 28\, 2026 \nTime: 12:00 PM PST \nLocation: Virtual\n\nJoin Virtual Event:\nhttps://teams.microsoft.com/meet/272298988287428?p=OKOhG21JbrBRC3jGG0\n
