Transportation Engineer

The City is currently seeking an energetic leader for the role of Transportation Engineer for our Infrastructure Division. The Transportation Engineer will institute best practices and inspire teams as the City of Cornwall grows and prospers. Reporting to the Manager of Infrastructure and Municipal Works, the Transportation Engineer is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the City’s transportation network. Key responsibilities include designing, approving, and implementing all aspects of the City’s transportation network and programs including traffic signals, street signs, pavement markings, traffic monitoring, street lighting, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, School Crossing Guards, among others.

The Transportation Engineer is responsible for preparing traffic studies which includes the technical analysis of existing transportation systems and identification of future transportation priorities, as well as producing technical reports for consideration of City Council on topics within the area of responsibility and attending City Council meetings as required to present and respond to enquiries.  As the Transportation Engineer, you will supervise and mentor a technical team undertaking the design, tendering and construction administration for transportation projects as well as maintenance programs. You will also review development applications from a transportation perspective such as subdivisions, site plans, committee of adjustment applications, etc. The Transportation Engineer shall also be responsible for managing and overseeing the development of Environmental Assessments, Masterplans, Traffic Studies, etc., as needed for future transportation priorities of the City.

Our candidates will have skills to design, plan, maintain and oversee all aspects of the City’s transportation network, with a working knowledge of applicable legislation (OTM, TAC, MMS, etc.); Comfortable working with Microsoft applications including Excel (advanced), Word, PowerPoint, as well as technical software such as Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite, Synchro, etc.; To meet the required qualifications for this position you must have a Degree in Civil Engineering coupled with a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) license in the Province of Ontario and a strong career focus on transportation/traffic engineering.  An Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) with the required technical experience and who is eligible for licensure may also be considered for the position. Bilingualism will be considered an asset.

The City of Cornwall offers a competitive annual salary starting at $100,183 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
