AM Khan Lifetime Achievement Award

In 2020, the ITE National Capital Section presented the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award to Professor Ata M. Khan. Throughout his distinguished career, Professor Khan had spent over 50 years educating transportation professionals in Ottawa and contributing to the transportation profession in Canada and internationally.

Since then, the Professor A.M. Khan Lifetime Achievement Award is presented when merited to an individual (or individuals) who has made significant and substantial contributions to the transportation engineering and planning profession in Canada’s Capital Region. To be eligible for consideration to receive the award, individuals ideally have been:

  • Working in the transportation engineering or planning profession in the public and/or private sector or as an academic for at least 25 years;
  • Based in Canada’s Capital Region for a significant portion of their career;
  • Contributing to and providing leadership on significant transportation engineering or planning education, projects or initiatives throughout their career;
  • A contributing volunteer to ITE (such as the National Capital Section, the Carleton University Study Chapter, ITE Canada, and/or ITE International) during their career;
  • A contributing volunteer to other relevant transportation engineering or planning organizations.

Since 2020, the Ata M. Khan Lifetime Achievement Award has been presented to:

  • 2022 – Sean Rathwell
  • 2021 – David Kriger
  • 2020 – Ata M. Khan
