ITE Canada District’s most prestigious award, the Distinguished Service Award in honour of H. Robert Burton, recognizes a member who dedicated much of his life to the transportation profession. Bob Burton spent his entire career practicing and promoting traffic engineering. A founder of the original Canadian Section in 1951, he was still attending CITE (now ITE Canada) and Toronto Section meetings right up to his death at the age of 101 years. He was selected the first Canadian ITE Honorary Member in September 1974—the highest honour bestowed by ITE International.
Each year, ITE Canada recognizes an individual member who has shown these same qualities that Bob Burton practiced. Nominees will have demonstrated a notable career in the field and record of service with ITE Canada District. The Distinguished Service Award is presented at the Annual Conference awards luncheon.
Recommendations may be made throughout the year by email to the ITE Canada Past President stating the name of the individual and a brief description of why the member should be considered for the award. Award recipients are selected by the ITE Canada District Executive Committee.
