Engineering Technologist II (up to 2)

Job Title: Engineering Technologist II (up to 2)

Pay Rate: $44.22 – $52.21 per hour (5 steps, 2024 rates) plus benefits
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week; Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm

Job Overview
The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to two regular full-time Engineering Technologist II’s to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Transportation Department. Reporting to the Manager, Transportation Engineering, in this unionized position you will perform complex technical work investigating and managing transportation projects, traffic systems and street lighting in support of a continued safe and efficient transportation network within the Township of Langley. This position will appeal to applicants who are detail-oriented, have excellent communication skills and are knowledgeable of municipal transportation, traffic control systems and design.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections, undertake technical assessments and make recommendations related to signage, pavement markings, sightlines, road safety and traffic operation in partnership with other municipal staff
  • Investigate concerns regarding traffic operations, road congestion, intersection control and access issues in response to requests from the public, internal and external contacts
  • Assist in developing and administering the traffic signal operations program, including signal review, design and modifications for capital works, street lighting design and new developments
  • Download and compile traffic count data from signal controllers, conduct signal warrants and prepare related legal responses
  • Review and develop traffic management plans for capital projects and special events
  • Assist with Highway Use and Driveway Permit review and approval
  • Liaise with a variety of external agencies including ICBC, the Ministry of Transportation and Highways and neighbouring municipalities on traffic system infrastructure improvements
  • Prepare preliminary designs and layouts for road improvements, road markings and signage
  • Perform related work as required

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an Institute of Technology with a diploma in civil and structural technology, building technology, or other related discipline, including or supplemented by courses in project management, plus considerable related experience preferably in a municipal setting, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Considerable experience and knowledge of applicable bylaws, policies and practices
  • Ability to independently act as a liaison and coordinator for projects and effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal/external contacts and the public
  • Ability to prepare and maintain reports, records, policies and related materials
  • Skill in a variety of engineering software packages, databases, traffic and roadway use applications

Required Certifications/Licenses
Candidates must have the following valid and current certifications/licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application.

  • BC Class 5 (full privilege) Driver’s License. You must include with your application a current Personal Driving Record (select the 5-year option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date. To obtain a copy of your Personal Driving Record, please contact ICBC directly or the driving authority where you reside. Please note that a copy of your Driver’s License and the Driver Factor Report will not be accepted.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification as an Applied Science Technologist within the Province of BC
