Job Profile

The City of Cambridge has an immediate opening for a Senior Civil Engineering Technologist II – Transportation position within the Infrastructure Services Department, Operations Division. Reporting to the Manager of Transportation Engineering, this position is responsible for:

What you will be doing

• Project Management for municipal active transportation infrastructure renewal, design and construction projects and other transportation capital projects including: terms of reference preparation, consultant selection coordination, providing direction to the consultant, budget-tracking, chairing public meetings, preparing reports to Council and other committees, preparing tender documents, reviewing and recommending tender awards, responding to stakeholder inquiries both verbally and in writing, chairing pre-construction site meetings, investigating and mitigating unforeseen field conditions and conflicts.
• Project Management for municipal projects requiring Municipal Class Environmental Assessments (EAs);
  Works on transportation capital infrastructure renewal, design and construction projects including Multi-use trails, trail bridges, cycling facilities, pedestrian crossovers, sidewalk infill, parking lots and other active transportation infrastructure and transportation capital and related projects.
• Prepares detailed design drawings and cross-sections, prepares detailed cost estimates, coordinates land acquisitions for road widening and easements, etc.
• Coordinates transportation engineering projects with various levels of government, government agencies, utility companies, railways, consultants, contractors and others.
• Receives, investigates and responds to general transportation engineering inquiries and requests from the public, Members of Council, city staff, consultants, and other agencies.
• Assists in the preparation of Capital budget estimates and monitors expenses for active transportation projects and other transportation capital projects.
• Contributes to Design and Construction Engineering Standards; Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); Policies and Best Practices documents, including review of current procedures, research of best practice methodologies of other jurisdictions and development of recommendations.
• Provides information to update Asset Management systems related to  transportation infrastructure to reflect completed projects
  Represents the City on technical committees and provides input to strategic transportation studies and initiatives undertaken by external agencies including adjacent municipalities, regional and provincial government agencies.
• Provides engineering expertise/technical guidance to other city divisions and departments regarding transportation engineering standards and Policies.

Education
Three-year diploma in Transportation or Civil Engineering Technology; Registration with OACETT with CET designation.

Experience and Knowledge

• Registration with OACETT with CET designation.
• Five (5) years municipal engineering experience, including two (2) years project management of consultants and contractors for municipal infrastructure projects, construction administration.
• Proficiency in using software such as Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Adobe Pro, Civil 3D, GIS, SAP, and work management systems.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) designation considered an asset.
• Good collaboration, organizational, problem solving, and record-keeping skills.  Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of contracts, construction practices, and engineering drawings as it relates to transportation projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with a strong emphasis on customer service.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, Adobe Pro, and knowledge of computer software and techniques applicable to the areas of transportation engineering/project coordination/administration.
• Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle for business purposes.

Your compensation
This position is within Grade 12 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule and has an annual salary range of $98,280 to $104,468.
Comprehensive benefits package included. Enrolment in Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).

Location of position
This position is located at Cambridge, City Hall, 50 Dickson Street, Cambridge, Ontario.

Hours of work
The current regular hours of work are in accordance with the collective agreement, however currently are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. (35 hours per week). Overtime is per the Collective Agreement.
