Subdivision Engineer

As the Subdivision Engineer, you will be responsible for reviewing and commenting on roadway design issues for all subdivisions within The City of Calgary, from concept to construction. This includes review of area structure and redevelopment plans, outline plans, legal plans, and construction drawings to ensure that designs are in accordance with standards and policies. Primary duties include: 

  • Assist with the review of design and policy issues related to development applications. 
  • Review detailed roadway designs submitted by consultants and developers to resolve detailed design issues. 
  • Prepare detailed roadway designs for in-house projects. 
  • Represent Public Spaces Delivery on various studies and committees and prepare/review technical or nontechnical letters and reports. 
  • Prepare detailed roadway designs for projects. 
  • Investigate and respond to Council and public inquires and meet with other internal and external parties. 

Qualifications 

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related Engineering field and at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.   • Experience in geometric design for roadways and knowledge of City Design Guidelines for Subdivision Servicing, Construction Specifications for roadways, and Transportation Association of Canada’s Geometric Design Guide is required. 
  • Experience in roadway operations, construction, and maintenance would be considered assets. 
  • Knowledge of policies and guidelines that govern urban development within The City would be considered an asset. 
  • The successful candidate will possess professional judgement, effective communication and negotiating skills, as well as planning, analytical, and organization skills.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. Such arrangements are based on the operational requirements of the position and employee suitability and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Location: 800 Macleod Trail SE
Compensation: Level P3E $113,200 – 141,500 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
