Traffic Analysis Engineer:

Duties:
Reporting to the Traffic Services Engineer, the Traffic Analysis Engineer provides specialized engineering functions encompassing pedestrian/active transportation safety issues, managing collision records, school zone safety, intersection/network operational analysis, signal warrant evaluations, speed limit reviews, as well as Policy and Standards reviews/updates. They are responsible for overseeing the management of the traffic collision database for the provincial highway system, including the coding of reports received from MPI/RCMP and the analysis of collision data for the purpose of identifying locations for possible improvements. They manage or conduct safety and operational analyses of in-service and proposed road elements, as well as arranging appropriate collection of all relevant traffic data and other contributing factors as they relate to safe highway and intersection operations. They will assist in prioritization of recommended safety improvements across the provincial highway system, based on on-going systemic evaluation and/or network screening methodologies.

Reporting to the Manager of Road Safety, the Road Safety Engineer is a technical expert within the Road Safety Section of the Traffic Engineering Branch and provides specialized Road Safety engineering services in support of the Department’s Road Safety initiatives. This position makes technical decisions and provides advice and recommendations to senior branch management to support decision making and is responsible for a wide range of stewardship functions related to road safety for all of the department’s minor and major transportation improvement projects, including prioritization of recommended safety improvements across the provincial highway system, based on on-going systemic evaluation and/or network screening methodologies. As the Project lead for Road Safety, this individual provides technical advice across municipalities, regions, program areas, departments, etc. and collaborates extensively with stakeholders throughout the Province. They review, approve, and provide recommendations on work of other non-specialist engineers for deviations from standards, practices, department policies, etc. and also provide support for the majority of daily and longer-term safety-related operations through policy development and Safety Audit initiatives.
