What you will do:

Reporting to the Director of Transportation Services, your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of supervisory and technical staff.
  • Oversee the operation of the City’s transportation network and road safety program.
  • Manage activities to ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ministry of Transportation requirements, Highway Traffic Act, Municipal Act, policies, procedures and specifications, etc.
  • Manage, train and develop staff to provide outstanding service delivery.
  • Manage CUPE staff, in the absence of the Manager, Transportation Operations .
  • Prepare responses (verbal and written) to Council, Senior Management, residents, etc. as required.
  • Represent the city on various region-wide committees.
  • Represent Transportation Services’ interests during OLT proceedings.
  • Assist Director with various activities, including budgets, reports to Council, etc.
  • Other duties as required.

What you will bring: 

  • University degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in transportation or a related field
  • Certification with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) or equivalent with significant experience
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills attained through a minimum of 3 years’ experience at supervisory level
  • Ability to establish, monitor and control costs/budgets
  • Excellent written communication skills; ability to prepare accurate reports and tender or quote documents
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills and commitment to outstanding customer service to deal efficiently and effectively with City staff from all levels, external agencies and the public
  • Excellent computer skills including experience with computerized management systems (e.g. Maximo, Open Text)

What we will require:

  • Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check satisfactory to the City
  • Proof of your current and valid certificate(s), licenses and/or educational qualifications
  • Valid MTO ‘G’ class driver’s license in good standing with access to reliable transportation for business use purposes (mileage reimbursement provided)
