The Opportunity:

WATT has an opportunity for a motivated mid-career or senior level Transportation Engineer to join our team to lead a wide range of transportation planning engineering projects – from multi-modal plans for communities to site specific operational assessments – across Western Canada. This position would be located from one of our BC office regions (Victoria, Vancouver or Kelowna, BC) depending on the applicant’s area of residence. No matter the location, you will lead and support projects across Canada. For the right applicant, this position may also provide the opportunity to take on the role of office lead and / or practice lead depending on location, skill set and desire.

As an Intermediate or Senior Transportation Engineer at WATT, you will have the opportunity to play a key role in a variety of traffic / transportation projects and help to continue to develop our practice. You will be involved in everything from multi-modal (active transportation) planning and design to traffic operations and impact assessments. Your primary focus will be to oversee and lead projects from start to finish, with the help of junior and technical team members. Additionally, you will provide transportation / traffic engineering expertise to your colleagues in both advisory and supportive capacities, contributing to a collaborative and integrated project approach.

You will be responsible for:

Ensuring the successful delivery of traffic / transportation engineering projects, including scheduling, budgeting, client communication, and compliance with corporate quality control processes.
Leveraging your technical expertise in traffic / transportation engineering to provide clients with practical and effective solutions in the areas of network analysis and modelling, transportation impact assessments, site design, active transportation planning and design, parking, and multi-modal road safety.
Leading and supporting conceptual and functional design of transportation facilities such as transit exchanges, bike/pedestrian paths, intersections, and other multi-modal infrastructure.
Collaborating with WATT team members by assisting other project managers, conducting peer-reviews, and mentoring junior staff.
Representing WATT in client, community, council meetings and other public engagement activities, effectively communicating technical information.
Writing clear and concise documentation for projects, including technical letters, memos, and reports.
Driving business development efforts by pursuing opportunities with past, current, and prospective clients, and supporting proposal preparation.
Maintaining technical competency in transportation engineering and project delivery, including active participation in professional organizations and on-going professional development.
Leading by example by working alongside others on our team to continuously improve our transportation practice and the value we deliver to our clients and communities.
Short (one to two day) trips to project locations may be required.

What you bring to WATT:

A registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or the ability to become a P.Eng. with the Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) within three (3) months of accepting the position.
At least five (5+) or more years of traffic / transportation engineering experience.
Project management / leadership skills and ability to support a growing and diverse practice.
Technical skills to lead and support transportation master plans, active transportation planning and design, traffic operations and site analysis, traffic management plans for construction zones, signal timing, safety audits, and traffic modeling.
Experience with AutoCAD or Civil 3D is considered an asset.
Experience using capacity analysis and microsimulation software such as Synchro / SimTraffic, HCS, Vistro, VISSIM, and/or SIDRA required.
Experience with travel demand modelling software (VISUM) is considered an asset.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, as well as strong analytical and organizational skills.
Ability to mentor junior engineering staff and provide technical guidance when needed.
PTOE or RSP certification is considered an asset.
Working knowledge of key technical manuals from TAC, ITE, NACTO, and Provincial Manuals.
A valid BC or equivalent Drivers’ License is required.
