ITE Canada Master’s Transportation Scholarship
in honour of John Vardon

John L. Vardon was Director of the Transportation Division of the Metropolitan Toronto Planning Board when he died after a brief illness in 1972. Mr Vardon held a B.Sc. Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto, and a Masters degree in Civil Engineering from Queen’s University. Prior to joining the Metro Planning Board, Mr. Vardon worked for the Ontario Department of Highways and participated in the joint highway research program at Queen’s University. John Vardon was well-liked and respected, and his friends set up the Vardon Scholarship shortly after his death. Learn more about his contributions here.

Value

The scholarship includes $3,000 (CAD) of financial support.

Recipients of the ITE Canada Master’s Transportation Scholarship also receive free registration to the annual conference (in the year of the award), reimbursement of travel expenses (up to $1000 if recipient resides outside of conference region, up to $100 if recipient resides within conference region), and recognition at the Annual Awards Luncheon.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the annual $3,000 award, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • be registered as a full-time student in a transportation masters-level program at a Canadian university
  • be a member of ITE
  • be a Canadian citizen and Permanent Resident

  • a covering letter that outlines your interest and ambition in the field of transportation, and how the scholarship award may help you achieve your academic and career goals.

Deadline: The application deadline is March 1st, 2026.

Submissions will open December 2025 and a link will be provided on this page.
