ITE—A Community of Transportation Professionals (ITE) works to improve mobility and safety for all transportation system users, helping to build smart and livable communities.
Founded in 1930, ITE is a volunteer-driven association of more than 18,000 engineers, planners, consultants, educators, researchers, technologists, and students working in more than 78 countries.
ITE Hamilton Section is affiliated with the ITE Canada District. We provide opportunities for professional development and community building throughout the Hamilton area including Burlington, Niagara Falls, Welland, Brantford & Brant County, Haldimand County, Halton Region, the City of Hamilton, and Niagara Region.
Since its inception over three decades ago, the ITE Hamilton Section has grown to more than 260 members, comprising transportation professionals from both the public and private sectors, as well as student members primarily from the Hamilton area.
Each year, we host five to six speaker events over breakfast or lunch, providing a platform for professionals and students to connect, exchange industry insights, and stay informed on emerging transportation trends. These events feature expert speakers who deliver high-quality presentations on topics relevant to our region and the broader transportation field. Sponsorship from local consulting firms and organizations helps make these events possible.
Student Support & Bursary Fund
ITE Hamilton Section is committed to supporting the next generation of transportation professionals. We maintain strong partnerships with the McMaster University and Mohawk College Student Chapters, actively supporting student engagement through competitions, presentations, and networking opportunities.
We established a bursary fund to provide financial assistance to one Mohawk College student pursuing studies in transportation engineering. This fund is sustained in perpetuity, ensuring ongoing support for students as they advance their education and careers in the transportation field. We are exploring options to offer similar opportunities to McMaster Students. We also support student members by providing opportunities to present alongside key speakers or participate in a poster session showcasing their work to the event audience. These initiatives help bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice.
We co-host the Annual Joint Student Presentation Competition in collaboration with the Toronto and Southwestern Ontario Sections of ITE, fostering student engagement and knowledge-sharing.
