ITE—A Community of Transportation Professionals (ITE) works to improve mobility and safety for all transportation system users, helping to build smart and livable communities.
Founded in 1930, ITE is a volunteer-driven association of more than 18,000 engineers, planners, consultants, educators, researchers, technologists, and students working in more than 78 countries.
ITE Southern Alberta Section is affiliated with the ITE Canada District. We provide opportunities for professional development and community building in Southern Alberta from Red Deer to the U.S. border. We support professionals in many municipalities including Calgary, Airdrie, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Canmore and Medicine Hat as well as the ITE University of Calgary Student Chapter. Founded in 1975, the Section continues to grow, fostering industry connections, professional development, and knowledge sharing.
Section Events
We host monthly in-person events, typically taking place on the second Tuesday of every month, providing opportunities for professionals and students to connect, exchange industry insights, and stay informed on emerging transportation trends. While many of the events feature lunchtime presentations, the Southern Alberta Section also organizes technical tours, webinars, workshops and social events throughout the year.
Our events and initiatives are made possible through sponsorship from local consulting firms, allowing us to deliver high-quality programming, networking opportunities, and professional development events. As part of our commitment to giving back, we make a charitable donation on behalf of the presenters at our events.
Annual Awards & Student Initiatives
Each year, we recognize outstanding contributions through our Annual Section Awards, announced at our Winter Gala, in the following categories:
Emerging Professional of the Year
Project of the Year
Volunteer of the Year
To learn more about these awards, sign up for our mailing list or reach out to any of our executives.
For students, we host yearly Industry-Student mixers in February to facilitate networking between transportation professionals and students. In 2025 we began hosting an annual Student Presentation Competition. We also contribute to supporting the local student team to attend the traffic bowl competition at ITE Canada conferences.
