Don’t miss this chance to be recognized nationally for your outstanding projects or contributions and to nominate deserving colleagues or employees! Nominations and applications for the ITE Canada District 2026 Excellence in Transportation Awards, Scholarships, and Bursaries close Sunday, March 1, 2026.

NEW in 2026: The Future Transportation Leaders Fund, which administers all scholarships, awards, and bursaries with monetary value, has introduced two new bursaries and increased the value of the Student Paper Competition Award. The names of all awards and scholarships honouring specific individuals have also been updated.

Preparing your submission

All submissions are due March 1, 2026. Please review the detailed criteria and application requirements before preparing your submission.

Emerging Professionals & Bursaries

ITE Canada Rising Star Award
ITE and ITE Canada District celebrate members under 35 who have made strong contributions to the profession and organization and demonstrated an ability to lead the next generation.

Bursaries

Professional Development Bursary in honour of David Tam
Two bursaries ($2,500 each) to support the continued learning and growth of two emerging leaders in transportation each year

Women in Transportation Travel Bursary from the Estate of Jenn and Jan Voss
Funding support ($1,000 each) for up to five women in transportation engineering travelling to attend the ITE Canada District Annual Conference

Emerging Transportation Leader Travel Bursary
Funding support ($1,000 each) for up to five professionals travelling to attend the ITE Canada District Annual Conference

Technical Excellence

ITE Canada Outstanding Technical Project Award in honour of Stan Teply
ITE Canada District’s flagship award for achievement in transportation planning and/or engineering selected from the ITE Transportation Achievement Award nomination submissions

Nominations for ITE International Transportation Achievement Awards
Categories include Complete Streets, Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO), Safety, Planning, Traffic Engineering, and Individual

Student Awards & Scholarships

Annual scholarships and awards for post-secondary students in transportation-related programs at all levels

ITE Canada Doctoral Transportation Scholarship 
in honour of Dr. Michel Van Aerde
$3,000

ITE Canada Master’s Transportation Scholarship
in honour of John Vardon
$3,000

ITE Canada Undergraduate Transportation Scholarship
$3,000

ITE Canada Innovation in Transportation Scholarship
in honour of John Morrall
$2,000

ITE Canada Student Paper Competition & Award
$2,000

Student Presentation Competition & Award
Selected from local ITE Section Student Presentation Competition winners

Sections & Student Chapters

Section Awards

  • Outstanding Section Award
    • A Section Annual Report must be submitted by March 1 to be considered for the Oustanding Section Award
  • Section Momentum Award
    • Sections will be asked when submitting your Annual Report if you’d like to be considered for the Section Momentum Award and, if so, be asked to submit a 50-60-word summary describing specific improvements or special efforts that Section leadership has implemented in the previous calendar year. If chosen, the Section will be asked to prepare a longer narrative for submission to ITE International.

Student Chapter Awards

  • Outstanding Student Chapter Award
    • A Student Chapter Annual Report must be submitted by March 1 to be considered for the Oustanding Student Chapter Award
  • Student Chapter Momentum Award
    • Student Chapters will be asked when submitting your Annual Report if you’d like to be considered for the Student Chapter Momentum Award and, if so, be asked to submit a 50-60-word summary describing specific improvements or special efforts that Student Chapter leadership has implemented in the previous calendar year. If chosen, the Student Chapter will be asked to prepare a longer narrative for submission to ITE International.
