Transportation Management of Emergencies in Northern Alberta
The Peace Region has experienced either wildfires or floods every year since 2014. Each year, it is a matter of when the emergency will strike, not if. Part of Mae’s work as the Operations Manager includes managing highway closures and evacuation routes during such emergencies. In this presentation, Mae is going to highlight the importance of networking and planning in advance of a disaster, as well as regular training and communication.
Proper traffic accommodation is essential to protect both local communities and other road users. Mae will review what was done here in Alberta to aid the thousands of evacuees from the Northwest Territories and how sometimes a small gesture can make a huge difference!
Presenter: Mae Stewart, P.Eng
Mae has spent her entire career as a civil engineer in the public service, working for municipal, federal and now provincial governments. She has spent the last 16 years working for Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC) in Peace River.
