ITE Canada District may submit one nomination for each category to ITE International’s Transportation Achievement Awards presented annually to recognize excellence in advancing transportation to meet human needs. These awards are open to a variety of entities, including governmental bodies, consulting firms, private corporations, and other industry organizations.
Categories
The Transportation Achievement Awards recognize an organization/entity/individual for one or more of the following accomplishments that occurred (predominantly) in the previous year:
One Canadian project nominee may be submitted in each of the categories to ITE International. The Canadian District nominees will be acknowledged at the ITE Canada Annual Conference but will not receive an award from ITE Canada.
One of the chosen Canadian project nominees for the ITE Transportation Achievement Awards may be selected to receive the ITE Canada Outstanding Technical Project Award in honour of Stan Teply, the highest technical honour awarded by ITE Canada District. No separate submission is required to be considered for this award
The awards celebrate organizations and individuals that demonstrate innovative concepts, perseverance in implementing challenging transportation programs, or contributions that significantly impact transportation safety and efficiency. Submissions should highlight initiatives that advance multimodal transportation, improve public safety, and promote sustainable transportation solutions for all. Only ITE members are eligible for the Individual category.
Category #6– Individual: District Awards Coordinators can now nominate one individual ITE member to be considered for the new 6th category, which recognizes a person who has demonstrated excellence in one of the areas of transportation. This is not meant to be a lifetime achievement-type award. The criteria for individuals mirrors the other categories. Therefore, this person would have individually done something in the previous year that fits one or more of these criteria:
Where applicable, they may be presented with one of ITE’s Legacy Awards—the Troy A. Peoples Award for Traffic Engineering, the Edmund R. Ricker Award for Safety, or the John LaPlante Award for Pedestrian and Bicycle work.
The submittal should be in PDF format and limited to a total of five (5) pages (including graphics) that describe the project/program/initiative and indicate how it meets the criteria for the award. The submission should assist the award committee in evaluating the project against the judging criteria. Multiple categories may be selected when entering a submission; however, entrants may only be recognized in one category.
Deadline: The application deadline is March 1, 2026.
Submissions will open December 2025 and a link will be provided on this page.
ITE Canada’s Technical Liaison Committee (TLC) or its designated representatives will select the Canadian nominees submitted to ITE International. The award decision will be made by a committee of ITE Board members—the Transportation Achievement Awards Committee and Council chairs.
