ITE Canada invites individuals or firms to express their interest in providing professional training opportunities to our transportation community in 2027. The purpose of this training program is to equip and inform participants with the latest trends and skills critical to their professional development, career success, and effective performance.
This year, ITE Canada is seeking submissions on two training topics: Speed Management for Safer Streets and Traffic Control Devices.
These training courses will provide a balance of foundational knowledge and specific technical applications, with opportunities for participants to learn about innovative approaches and relevant guidelines. Training content should also be eligible for Professional Development Hours (PDH) with provincial regulatory bodies.
Speed Management for Safer Streets
This proposed course is designed for transportation professionals who translate speed-management principles into decisions about collector and arterial corridors, intersections, neighbourhoods, complete streets, micromobility, capital projects, and safety programs. The course also examines the framework of roadway design and operations, and methods that can produce the desired speeds.
The course will be a practice-oriented workshop where participants will work through speed data interpretation, context-sensitive targets, constraints, countermeasures selection (including vertical/horizontal deflection, road-width adjustments and psychological speed management), and post-implementation evaluation. Canadian examples and jurisdictional considerations must be used alongside selected international case studies so that participants can transfer the methods to their own agencies and assignments.
Speed-management concepts increasingly need to reconcile roadway function, land use, vulnerable-road-user exposure, transit operations, active transportation, emergency response, accessibility, public expectations, and network performance toward Vision Zero and Safe System frameworks.

Expression of Interest (EOI) for 2027 Professional Training ...Traffic Control Devices: Principles and Applications
This training would cover the broad fundamentals of traffic control design, including the appropriate use of traffic control devices; regulatory, warning, and guide signing; pavement markings; traffic signals; and temporary traffic control. The course would also examine the application of design standards, human factors, and engineering judgment in the selection and implementation of traffic control measures to support safe and efficient roadway operations.
The course should include an interactive workshop where attendees apply these concepts by selecting and placing appropriate signs and pavement markings for a street or intersection, using both urban and rural examples. As a value-add, the training could also incorporate current industry “hot topics,” such as multimodal traffic control, wayfinding for active transportation users, speed management treatments, work zone innovations, and the use of technology and data-driven approaches to support traffic control design and operations.
