Student Chapters – Lakehead University
After an unsuccessful launch in 2012, Lakehead University (LU) is pleased to announce the re-establishment of it’s ITE Student Chapter. Situated in Thunder Bay, the student chapter provides members an opportunity to work in a sparse, rural environment that may not be found in other student chapters across Ontario. The student chapter revival effort is being led by Dr. Juan C. Pernia and M.Sc candidate Jeff Pascua.
It is anticipated that transportation engineers will be in high demand with the development of new, innovative transportation technologies. As such, one of the primary objectives for the student chapter this 2017-2018 year is to promote transportation engineering to all civil engineering students (undergraduate and graduate) within LU, as well as Northern Ontario. In a similar manner, we are aiming to correspond with other disciplines in order to facilitate a wide range of transportation-related topics. Finally, another major objective is to establish stronger relationships with public and private transportation agencies in order to connect students with current professionals and practitioners. Members of the student chapter are aiming to accomplish these objectives by organizing engaging activities, presentations from guest speakers, and social events.
