The first ITE student chapters were organized at the University of Illinois and Yale University in 1947 while the first in Canada was established in 1974 at the University of Waterloo. There are over 130 ITE student chapters around the world. Although the programs and activities of each vary greatly, the goal of introducing students to the transportation profession and supplementing their classroom and laboratory experiences has been maintained.
